Industrial Metal Degreasing (Primary Use)

More than 65% of global TCE usage is for vapor degreasing or cold cleaning of metal components (zinc, aluminum, brass, bronze, and steel) to remove heavy grease, oil, wax, and tar before painting, plating, or welding.

Vapor Degreasing Process

TCE is heated to a vapor in specialized tanks; cold metal parts are introduced, causing the vapor to condense on them, dissolving contaminants, and providing a clean, dry surface.

Chemical Intermediate

It is used as a crucial feedstock in the production of hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) refrigerants, such as HFC-134a.

Adhesives and Coatings Formulation

Acts as a solvent and agent in manufacturing adhesives, paints, varnishes, sealants, and typewriter correction fluids.

Textile Processing

Employed for scouring, removing lanolin and grease from wool and cotton, and in waterless dyeing and finishing operations.
